Four score and seven years ago, our forefathers established a new nation on this continent, born of liberty and committed to the belief that all men are created equal. This present moment finds us embroiled in a great civil war, a test of whether such a nation, or any nation founded with such ideals, can enre. Today, we stand on the hallowed ground of a significant battlefield, where we gather to consecrate a part of it as a final resting place for those who gave their lives to ensure the nation's survival.
While it is fitting to pay our respects and dedicate this spot, we must recognize that in a broader sense, our mere words cannot further sanctify this land. The valor of the living and the fallen has already elevated it beyond our humble efforts to augment or diminish its significance. As the living, it is upon us to renew our dedication to the unfinished mission they began. We must vow to increase our devotion to the cause for which they laid down their lives, and commit to ensuring their sacrifice was not in vain. We must strive for a rebirth of freedom for our nation and uphold the principle that government, by the people and for the people, must enre.
